The Songs of the Summer: horsegiirL Debuts with 'NATURE IS HEALING'
HORSEGIIRL: NATURE IS HEALING
SCORE: 100/100
The timing of this album coming out is something truly immaculate for me. With graduation steadily approaching, the sun coming out, and my confidence flourishing, it seems almost uncanny that my favorite female DJ released her debut album of nature-laced female empowerment anthems that transcend genres and compile everything she's worked towards into one visually and sonically stunning project. When an album is something that I can immediately connect to in a sense-of-self context, it heightens the overall experience by tenfold, with horsegiirL being one of the most important artists of the year for me so far. Being in my own personal healing era in the month of my life's biggest accomplishments and getting an album about healing and nature when I have been much further aligned with both myself and the nature surrounding me feels like an exceptionally divine message that still seems too good to be truly realized.
These last few months have been some of the biggest milestones of personal growth for me, as I have overcome working challenges, progressed through my schooling, and taken steps closer and closer to the finish line towards graduation. This means that my personal life is flourishing - and it's just getting started. I cannot be more grateful for all of the experiences I have coming up, and this album will without a doubt be one of my musical mood boards for the entire summer season that is among us.
I have also managed to find myself in more ways than one in the last couple of months - as I have come out as genderfluid and come to find even more pieces of my identity thanks to music and my personal growth. This has allowed for me to truly shine as a person and as my best self, and I cannot be happier with the direction in which my life is going in - and it's set to only get better with even more time. Being able to express myself freely while finding out the path I want to take in the future once I graduate has been a liberating experience, and I have never felt so comfortable in my own body and skin. I have been on the path to success and sheer confidence, and I have truly never been so confident and comfortable in the way I dress and consume various forms of media - all of which impact me in more ways than one. This allows for me to shine through as my absolute best self, which can be seen in my work and the potency in which reviews as personal as this one hold.
Despite my busy schedule with these next few weeks bringing along graduate bliss for me, this is an album that I had to get to as soon as possible. It was something I absolutely had to set time aside for, and it was more than just worth my while.
This 15-track album of pure mixed electronic bliss is without a doubt already Stallion's finest work, with everything coming together into a summer rave of an album with over 50 minutes of immaculately mixed music. The resulting album is something that will make you feel everything at once and then some, and the end project is even finer in quality than I ever could have expected; and this is coming from someone who already had very high expectations for the album as a whole.
It's an empowering album of femininity that embraces every side of life from nature to confidence to the rarer of concepts, and it spans from summery, beachy EDM all the way over to hardcore Gabber groves; both of which weave into each other and create an absolutely infectious album that will without a doubt be on loop for the remainder of the summer.
Rarely does an album feel so neatly put together, but NATURE IS HEALING is beyond just being well-structured. Every song feels like it was made for the previous effort, and everything is mixed to perfection. It's a truly immaculate project that transcends what has been known from Stallion as an artist, reinventing her sound and playing more into the blissful, naturesque aesthetic that she has embodied in her personal fashion and musical style. This style blends the lines of clean and rough in electronic music, creating something that is entirely unique to her and her artistry in a way that no other DJ has ever done before.
On this album, Stallion mixes House, Electropop, Eurodance, Trance, and Gabber onto one album, with various different primaries and subgenres working together to create an album that feels more like an experience than just an LP. It's an album that you can truly feel on a deeper level, and each song provides something new and exciting to keep the upbeat spirit of Stallion alive on every track.
It's almost impossible to piece together through words just how sleek NATURE IS HEALING is in its sound and style. The aesthetics of the album have been catered to absolute perfection, with Stallion making a name for herself in the electronic scene and reaching even deeper global success all the way from Germany. On top of the impressive spectacle provided by the production, Stallion's voice is as smooth as honey - making her the perfect vocalist for bass-heavy electronic grooves such as the tracks found within this album.
The concept of NATURE IS HEALING is wonderful to see played out the way that it was done. It doesn't feel tacky or gimmicky while still remaining campy and targeted, and Stallion has managed to build an audience outside of her demographic with songs as catchy as what she does here. Every single song fits into the context of the album, with each track having a new and unique theme that ties into the core foundations of the album; love, healing, nature, confidence, girlhood, and of course, horses.
There are flawless transitions between the tracks that make the album feel like an intimate DJ set rather than being a standard album - which is something that DJ's do incredibly well. When an album can manage to feel like a nonstop party rather than just a collection of songs, you know that you're in for an absolute treat while listening; and this is a project that can never get old. It never falls flat or shows signs of artistic fatigue, and it's clear to see that Stallion is absolutely flourishing in both her life and her artistry.
Seeing an artist experiencing their prime and coming out of their shell while working with such a complex and specific media image is something that the music industry has not gotten in a while - and horsegiirL is without a doubt one of the most unique DJ's of all time; and she works as one hell of an inspiration to women around the world with her strong femininity and consistent personal appeal. Continuing to stay true to yourself while being hidden from the public eye through a half-horse-half-DJ persona is something that has never been done before, and Stallion is incredible at committing to the bit.
NATURE IS HEALING manages to add experimental influences and varied sounds in a way that is tasteful and never out of place, with the more "out there" elements weaving their way into the tracklist and keeping listeners on their toes throughout. This creates an interesting album that is potent in its compositions and never boring in its sounds - and it showcases all of the sides of Stallion artistically, some of which dives into untapped areas in her music, such as on songs like fun guy fungi. Hearing Stallion being herself throughout the entire album without changing her pace or style for anyone but herself and what felt right to her in the context of the album is incredibly refreshing, and it's rare to see such incredible artistry pushed into an album like this one.
The composition of this album allows for intermissions and breakthroughs to play out and shine in their own moments, meaning that the entire album comes together as a package deal. This is a project that you absolutely must listen to from front to back at least once, and the emotional depth of the project is something you won't want to miss out on. Every song is a star in its own right, and there are things on this album that have never been done before by any other artist.
This is an electronic album that suits any party - from celebrations to beach days, NATURE IS HEALING is the "it girl" album of the summer. It's a nonstop party that every listener is invited to, and it's palatable for any listeners; even for those who are not as deeply in tune to electronic music.
Every single element on NATURE IS HEALING is truly as good as it gets - and you won't find a better electronic album from anyone else anytime soon. The work that Stallion put in to producing and writing this album while fine-tuning it to her audience and personal style is something that few other artists could do, and it showcases a true sense of pristine artistry that makes horsegiirL one of the most influential females in all of electronic music at the current moment.
