Temptress & Space Queen's 2026 Tour Hits the Chill House Stage with Support from Sweet Beast
It was great to be back at the Chill House for the month of May this Friday after a much needed break recharged me and has given me even more motivation towards shows - with this Friday show being an exceptional one to return to.
The hot summery Friday marked what is just the beginning of a boiling May in Chilliwack, and it's clear to see that this is going to be another summer that hits record-highs across the board. The good news? The Chill House offers cool beverages and Freezies year-round to keep show-goers from overheating. Dress cool and spend your time inside of the darkly-lit venue and you won't find yourself melting from the heat!
The show setup was exceptionally professional, setting the merch table up with a plethora of items that made the show feel as it should; a major tour stop for a group of exceptionally talented artists that brought something new and unique to the Chill House stage. The amount of merch being displayed at the show was sure to please any fans of either Temptress or Space Queen; and it's clear that they have the visions and aspects for their current ongoing tour in motion perfectly well.
In proper Chill House fashion, the venue was bubbling with kind people and chatter throughout, with both newcomers and familiar faces lining the building for a humble turnout that stayed consistent throughout the night. The slightly older crowd was respectful and kindhearted in their interactions with others, and the slow build allowed for people to get to know one another before the show started up.
Each band was organized and quick to set up, with the timing of the show being absolutely perfect. Each band had time to run for as long as they needed without any bumps in the road, and the organization felt throughout the show in its entirety was applaudable.
There was no better way to end off a work week than with this show - and all of the far-away bands were a treat to see, with this show being a rare example of a lineup without any local names on the bill. This Stoner Rock show was one for the books; and it's clear to see that May is going to be another one of the best months that the Chill House has ever seen when it comes to shows and stacked lineups.
--------------------------------------
Sweet Beast started off the night with a set that uses atmospheric sounds and unique sonic elements to create an otherworldly set that helped to define the sound of the entire night - otherworldly, celestial, and full of Stoner Rock elements that are hard to come by in a modern-day setting as of late.
The band made sure that their set was started in a timely manner, wasting no time to take the stage. Their setup time was impeccable, and the organization between the members of the band is something that you rarely see or even notice in a setting like this. It's something that those who know their way around concerts dearly appreciate from bands - and it gives artists a great reputation when they are on time and consistently organized when they are brought onto the stage.
Their punchy sound was made apparent almost instantly, with a brief exploration into audio effects transitioning into a loud set that could be felt in your chest if you were standing anywhere on the floor of the building. Their loud sound was almost immediately captivating and deeply enjoyable on all fronts, and their punchy drumming especially made sure that the entire set was brought up to a distinctly high level.
In order to create a unique and invigorating sound, the band uses a deeply mesmerizing sound palate that uses both slow and harsher moments to make something harmonious and highly interesting to come back to, with their sound being best experienced through an intimate live show like what was displayed at the Chill House. Their deeply unique sound was something that was instantly captivating from the moment they hit the stage, and despite their slightly laid-back personal styles and personalities, their sound transcends boundaries and blends elements you won't find anywhere else.
Heavy moments in the band's versatile set were challenged and distorted at every chance, being slowed down and transformed into something that is much more full of depth in every way imaginable. Their Stoner Rock atmosphere and tonal changes made sure that their set was consistently enjoyable rather than having their sound come and go in waves - and the result was an absolutely unforgettable set.
Despite performing a similar Hard Rock sound to other bands that have also played at the venue, Sweet Beast have a unique sound and charm that made them feel like one of the most deeply unique bands to grace the Chill House. It's clear to see that the members of the band are themselves at every turn, and their unbiased sense of self is something that makes their sound look and sound effortless to them despite the complexities that can be found in every note.
The band's coherent and organized sound was something that went constantly above and beyond, with instrumentals and riffs being stacked together to create mountaintops of sound throughout the entirety of their set. They made sure to give their all and never stop the show even once, with the in-between's of songs providing stunning interludes that packed on even more depth to the band's aesthetics both sonically and visually.
Using exceptional standout effects between each song allowed for the band to keep up their best work without becoming fatigued from what can best be described as a "non-stop set", with their sound best being experienced from a laid-back viewpoint where you let the music lift and guide you wherever it may go.
It was also clear to see that the band works together exceptionally well both on and off the stage, with their clear teamwork and displays of friendship being deeply refreshing to see - especially during a set where each of the members were in their elements and locked into them for the entire performance.
Alongside strong and raw vocals, the band utilized exceptionally impressive instrumental work that would be enough to hook anyone stopping by for a show. Their sound is exceptionally invigorating and truthfully captivating at every turn, and it's without a doubt impressive to witness a band with a sound similar to that of Queens Of The Stone Age performing on stage like its what they were born to do. The usage of instrumental solos and grooves that continuously rode out and challenged themselves musically made sure that Sweet Beast were an absolutely unforgettable force; and it's hard to place just how impressive the band truly is in what they do.
The band's long songs were performed like they were effortless for the band in their extensive set that provided a comprehensive and thrilling look into the band; and if you weren't a fan before, you were sure to leave the show wanting to listen to them again and again with songs like 70/30 showcasing the musical prowess that the band carries.
Performing such long songs is something that either falls flat or immerses a crowd - and Sweet Beast know how to make sure their long song lengths make people move on the floor of their shows. It was a sound that is impossible for many to replicate, and the dedication found in such long track lengths being performed on a big stage is something you don't often see.
Their sound is an absolute must-see for any fans of Stoner Rock, and their affordable shows are an offer you should never pass up. Great music for such a low price is something truly incredible to see, and Sweet Beast are just one of many names keeping the underground music scene alive through a sound that you don't often see.
Music you can get lost in is something that is oftentimes slightly difficult to find, but I was entirely immersed and lost in the sounds performed by Sweet Beast - with their set showcasing the clear fact that the band knows how to put on a highly memorable performance every single time they take the stage.
Sweet Beast are a band that had me swaying through their rough-edged and heavy sound that was impressively danceable at every moment; and their set was the perfect way to bring energy into the walls of the Chill House to allow for the show to sail smoothly. Each of the three bands got to show off their varied sounds and talents on a very large scale at this show; with Sweet Beast being one of the most impressive Stoner Rock bands I have had the pleasure of seeing live so far.
The band had an endless supply of riffs to keep the show lively and interesting through sound, and the band's clear ear for sound is something that makes them stand out deeply on stage no matter who they're performing with. Their slot as support for Temptress and Space queen feels like a match made in heaven, and the Chill House was lucky to get such a deeply interesting show to fill up the venue with sound on Friday.

The all-female trio Space Queen were next up on the stage, with their unique pagan-laced wiccan aesthetic being something I have never seen in a band before - and especially not from one performing at the Chill House. Their earthy rock sound blends genres and various different elements that make them immediately stand out, and their alignment with their sense of selves while working together as a band with a unique lineup of members is something deeply impressive and wonderful to watch unfold on stage.
Seeing a group of female heavy rockers is deeply refreshing in a scene packed full of male-only bands, and their dedication to their sound and aesthetic is incredibly wonderful to see and hear; especially live. Their merchandising and sound are both in a style that I absolutely adore on all fronts, and their unique sonic inspirations are something you won't find in any other band. The members are incredibly kindhearted and exceptionally great at what they do, and this is a band that truly brought the memorability of the night up by tenfold on Friday.
An earthy aesthetic was also brought into the diverse mix of their sound, with a style that is almost impossible to pinpoint radiating from the stage throughout the entirety of the band's stunning performance.
Their set had a mesmerizing sound that was instantly captivating, and to say that their set captured my attention would almost be an understatement towards how truly potent their sound was on the stage. Their mesmerizing usage of heavy sounds that are transformed into something new and invigorating is something that would be sure to consume any listener, and seeing them live is something that helped to really bring out the best in each of the members while putting faces to names.
Despite a heavy sound, Space Queen had an incredibly atmospheric set that even had a candle brought onto the stage in one of many unique moments present within their performance, showcasing that the trio are clear performers in every right when it comes to creating something that will make the entire crowd feel the magic of their music. They constantly ensured that their performance was interesting at every turn, and their longform set allowed for them to play a comprehensive blend of their music due to their established catalogue.
Space Queen's set had a Hard Rock sound that was turned into something blue and melodic, with their dark sound still being upbeat and flourishing in its sonic elements. It's a deeply incredible thing to hear played so loud and intensely, and the bands fever for putting on their performances is something that every band should strive to display.
The band's fitting name meant that there were space age sounds blended into a modern display of rock that pushes boundaries in what sounds belong to each decade's palate of music, with the band being completely unrestrained in what they do in order to create a sound that audiences are sure to remember and want more of with every show. The mix of Hard Rock, Stoner Rock, and elements of Space Age, Blues, and Jazzy soundscapes meant that the band had a massive amount of variety; and that's an aspect that you truly can't beat when it comes to putting on a show and creating a sound that will stick.
Their uniqueness in sound and style was something that made their set a true highlight of a night that felt like one massive display of highlights, and the energy of the night hit a second surge with Space Queen leading the revolution. A bluesy sound was perfect for the crowd that was drawn in by this infectious show, and the band clearly knows how to play for their audience.
Alongside a strikingly talented sound, the band showcased exceptional work together as a collective, with the three members working together incredibly well on stage and ensuring that their energies reverberated off of one another to create a divinely heavy and enjoyable atmosphere that never had a dull moment in the mix.
The three members of the band all provided great vocals, with a strong sense of vocal projection that filled the room with gorgeous harmonies when each of the members would sing together rather than apart. The lead vocalist of the band was exceptional at making sure her vocals were heard loud and clear, and her strong singing style is something you don't see in an everyday vocalist.
Each song that was brought out by the band was deeply enjoyable, with their songs mixing genres and creating a sound that has never been heard before. This allowed for the band to truly provide something new to the Chill House, and their set felt like a comprehensive look into their discography without giving everything away, allowing for listeners to dig deeper and find material outside of what was put onto the setlist of the night.
Each member of the band is unique in their own right, with their own personal styles and talents coming together to create what was one of the most memorable sets that I have seen at the Chill House. Each of the members ensured that their sound was locked down and phoned in to perfection, and there wasn't a single error to be found within their entire performance.
Their set was yet again deeply organized and well-paced, with the stage being set quickly despite an entire new drumkit being transported onto the stage. The band's deeply efficient methods of getting their performance in motion is something that makes them even more worth seeing, as they aren't the type to leave a crowd waiting for anything over the changeover time.
The usage of heavier hard rock elements blended into their set made for a diverse performance that was full of depth. Their deeply memorable riffs mean that their songs are instantly recognizable once you've already heard them once - and believe me, they're worth hearing again and again. Space Queen are a rare band where their songs never grow old, and their timeless sound is something that you should not skip out on hearing if you haven't already.
A deeply commanding stage presence was seen in every member of the band while they tore up the Chill House stage, and a great register of bass and unique elements made them the biggest highlight of the entire night.
The band's slower songs were great to sway to, with one of the songs making me deeply emotional in both its sound and lyrics. When music is able to make you feel something deeper, it's always a sign that a band is truly worth investing your time into and making memories with their live shows - and its always worth it.
The rumbling guitars held by the band could be felt in your soul if you were close enough, and creating an atmosphere that you could feel throughout the entire venue was one of the most important elements of their Chill House set, with their performance being a shockingly high-quality surprise that was completely unexpected. Going in to their set blind was an exceptional way to discover the band; but I wish that I had found them much sooner than now.
Such a sonically stunning set ensured that heads were turned and attention was kept for Space Queen's set, with their varied soundscapes being something that truly can not be heard in any other environment. The fine-tuned atmosphere created by the band is something that was mesmerizing to hear throughout the walls of the Chill House, and to call their set memorable would almost be understating how truly incredible their delivery was in every moment they were on the stage for.
It almost goes without saying that Space Queen are a one-of-a-kind band, and their sound was something that I hope to see again in the very near future. Their innovative and heavy sound brought something more than words can express to the stage; and they are without a doubt one of my favorite bands I have seen so far in my career of covering various different shows.
Space Queen were one of the most truly unique bands I have ever seen, and I am thankful for the opportunity that was given to me to see them live on the stage at the Chill House. Having bands from further areas come all the way to the Chill House is a massive milestone for the venue; and they're slowly becoming one of the most established underground venues in British Columbia, with shows like this one showcasing the growth that the venue has had incredibly well.
When a band truly feels like a must-see for anyone who is able to, it's a clear statement towards their talent and sound on a very large scale. This is a band that can go far - and their cult following is something that deserves an immediate expansion. If you haven't heard of them yet, I absolutely

Temptress are a band you’ll be tempted to see live due to their unique sound, and this stop of the tour was a great thing to have in Chilliwack with the way it brought the community together and showcased three incredible bands. Being able to get bands from further and further away seeking out the Chill House as a performance outlet is something to be eternally grateful for, and their set made sure to live up to the expectations set by the band.
Closing off the night with such a long-awaited set was an exceptional way to go, with Temptress' headlining set making sure that the show would be truly unforgettable for everyone in attendance. The unique style showcased by the band throughout their entire performance showcased strength and courage, and their ability to adapt and overcome was something applaudable in every way.
The group of veteran musicians all come from unique backgrounds, with the band being no strangers to touring and hailing all the way from Texas for their first time in Western Canada. Their mix of Stoner Rock and Doom metal created a hauntingly unique atmosphere that reverberated throughout the entirety of the Chill House, and their blended sound is something that is well-suited to various different musical audiences all in one.
Their set had a deeply bassy sound that came from within and reigned down an exceptional amount of reverb, and the blended effects used by the band ensured that their sound was delicately mixed and deeply potent to listen to - especially in such a loud atmosphere. Their set was something that truly grabbed the audience, and such a captivating performance is something that can be driven exceptionally high through the dark underground atmosphere of the Chill House.
A very established and skilled sound could be found within the band's performance - and it's no wonder as to why this is, as the band is made up of musicians who know their way around. The band knows what they're doing, and they made this apparent throughout their unforgettable Chill House performance. Such a skilled sound is something that every band strives for, and Temptress are a band that any Hard Rock musicians can look up to in terms of sound and sonic style.
The three-piece band worked incredibly well together, with an organized set that underwent some challenges with technical difficulties that the band overcame professionally and wonderfully. Their exceptional display of perseverance throughout their performance ensured that they are a name that won't be forgotten anytime soon, and seeing such a high level of professionalism on stage was a deeply inspirational sight to see.
Temptress used songs that ride out and take their time to build up gradually, with a mix of long and average-length songs creating an even divide in the atmosphere of the band's performance. The band has a sound suited for stadiums - but seeing them in the underground scene feels like home. A venue with a dark atmosphere is where Temptress belong - which made the Chill House the perfect pick.
The band displayed both a unique stage presence and lineup, with the dual vocals between a softly-sung female and a gothic and loud older male vocalist made for an incredibly interesting on-stage duo that was unlike anything I have seen before. The male/female split of the band ensures that a Temptress performance gives the audience the best of both worlds, which includes a steady blend of raw and clean vocals on every song.
Moments of heavy screams and hard vocals were something truly unexpected, and seeing Temptress without knowing their music beforehand made for a truly investing experience that was well worth a Friday night. There was no better place to be to start off May with a bang, and Temptress made sure to put on an intense and comprehensive set.
Traditional gothic male vocals along with a standout sound were some of the things that highlighted Temptress' set as brightly as they wound up sounding, and their sound was almost cinematic at times due to the depth within each and every moment. A wide caliber of depth was promised and ensured within every song, and the band managed to reinvent their own sound when compared to digital listening, with a Temptress live show being essential to get the full effect.
Such advanced and longform songs being performed live is always something deeply impressive to see - and it's a rare feat that many bands can not pull off; but Temptress are not one of those bands. Their advanced skill level in performing live, touring, and playing their respective instruments makes them an absolute powerhouse of a band when they are on stage, and they're an incredibly respectable band.
Throughout the entirety of the band's set, a dark and highly moody sound was ever-present. What immediately made the band stand out was their unique atmosphere that is finely created through sound; and it's something that you couldn't quite find from any other band. The moodiness of their Alternative, blended rock sound is something truly infectious - and they're even more of a force to be reckoned with live.
It's clear to see the band's love for performing when they're on the stage, which made their performance even more refreshing to see up close. Their sound is something that is heavily built for the stage - which the band made sure to showcase throughout their entire time on the stage, which was much more longform than most average Chill House sets; because this wasn't an average Chill House show.
The moodiness of the band was almost vampiric in sound, with their opening setting the tone of their entire set while keeping a steady and consistent pace throughout. Despite slower songs and complex grooves, the band was endlessly energetic on stage while showcasing their deep range and creating a show that can never be forgotten. It was an immaculate showcase of talent on all fronts, with Temptress making sure to steal the show within their headlining set.
The most energy I had throughout the entire night was brought along by Temptress, with their music carrying a heaviness that I could feel while headbanging and letting myself be taken away by their music for a brief time. Their set was longform and made sure to phone in every single aspect that makes the band who they are, and it was without a doubt one of the strongest Alternative sets that the Chill House stage has seen so far.
Temptress' unique style drew in a crowd that deeply looked forward to seeing them, with a great turnout being full of new faces at the Chill House. It's rare that a show draws in a largely older crowd, but the diversity of the night could not be topped. The atmosphere in the venue was everchanging, with Temptress being sure to provide one last hit of intensity and sonic bliss into the venue before the night came to a whirling close.
Despite a heavy sound found throughout the band's performance, they made sure to end off their set soft to capture one final breath of air before they headed off of the stage to embark on their next stop on tour.
