HOLD THE MUSTARD PRODUCTIONS: Learn All About Supermodel Taxidermy Before the Show
Hailing all the way from Alberta, Supermodel Taxidermy will be the second band on the bill during Saturday's show at the Chill House - with the unique Punk Thrash fusion band being exactly what the venue needs to bring the energy up and draw an excited crowd.
A: My name is Shawn, I'm the front man. I play the guitar and yell at people.
Q: What is the sound of Supermodel Taxidermy like?
Q: What can people expect when they come to see you for the first time?
Q: What are some of your influences in terms of sound and style?
Q: How long have you been making music, and how did it start for you?
Q: What are some of the most rewarding parts of being in a band for you personally?
Q: What can fans expect from the band in the near future? Are there any new projects planned?
A: We are currently in the middle of writing our third album which will be out next year but you can expect a single or two before then along with another music video. Here's our YouTube link.
Q: If you could describe your sound in only ONE word, what might that word be?
A: As the singer/guitarist there is a heavy balance that needs to be carried between showmanship & performance. To little of either can be an airball.
Q: Has being in a band given you a deeper appreciation for music? If so, how?
A: I would say it helped highlight who really grinds behind the scenes. When I meet a great promoter, venue owner, journalist, label, band or musician etc, I make it a point to share they're name and contact with the industry. I see a lot of bands that don't do this and I can't understand why. The goal is to build up the scene, right?
Q: Are there any things you wish you had known before creating music of your own?
A: No, music has been around me my entire life. I learned to treat it as a business very early! That is key kids so don't fuck that part up.
Q: What is the creative process of Supermodel Taxidermy like?
A: Supermodel Taxidermy's content is pulled from societal horrors and subjects that are hard to deal with. We like to have listeners question the subject at hand and wondering if they should also be looking for a different outcome. Our name alone is a big fuck you to world that is trying to tell us how we should look or what we should wear. This band is the mascot for the anti-trickle down theory and our imagery reflects our rough edges.
Q: What will you bring to the Chill House stage on the 23rd?
A: Some high energy chaos, count on that! we'll see you in the pit.
Q: Lastly, what is one piece of advice you would give to any aspiring artists out there?
Supermodel Taxidermy blend Punk and Thrash Metal influences together to create an infectious energy that will keep the night moving and thrashing, and there's sure to be ample amounts of moshing at the show.
The band's frontman, Shawn, was kind enough to sit down and give some additional information on the band for those who do not already know them - which helps to provide important context into their sound and style that is sure to convince any metal fan to get out and see them this weekend.
There will be no better place to spend your time at than the Chill House this Saturday, and you'll want to read the exclusive interview under the cut to learn all you can about one of the highlights of the night before they even take the stage.

Q:What is your role in the band like? Introduce yourself for those who might not know you.
A: My name is Shawn, I'm the front man. I play the guitar and yell at people.
Q: What is the sound of Supermodel Taxidermy like?
A: Crossover Thrash Metal. Think D.R.I vs SLAYER
Q: What can people expect when they come to see you for the first time?
A: You're going to catch three "half snapped dudes" ripping some seriously fast punk music; like they're playing in a metal band.
Q: What do you bring to the stage when you perform?
A: Water! I'm a very wordy lyricist and there is almost zero filler so when I do get to stop for a second I'm in a desperate need for H20.
Q: What are some of your influences in terms of sound and style?
A: Slayer, Dayglo Abortions, Suicidal Angels, Pennywise, Dr. Living Dead, Horror Movies, dark occult stuff and almost every thing by Stephen King has giving me some sort of inspiration.
Q: How long have you been making music, and how did it start for you?
A: I've been playing guitar since a teenager (so 30-ish years) but this band started in 2019. I had some time on my hands and put it to good by writing an album and recorded it. Since that our band hasn't looked back.
Q: What are some of the most rewarding parts of being in a band for you personally?
A: 100% getting to do what I love as a job is! I mean I have a day job that supports my ability to be a musician but being on the road and making new friends who are just as passionate about the business is a very cool find. Also, watching our band grow has been super rewarding. This year we played a show with Anthrax & Exodus in our home town and that's something I would not have expected if you asked me in 2019.
A: "AGH-GHAAAAAAAAAAAA"
Q: What are some of the challenges that come with being in a band for you personally, and how do you overcome them?
A: As the singer/guitarist there is a heavy balance that needs to be carried between showmanship & performance. To little of either can be an airball.
Q: Has being in a band given you a deeper appreciation for music? If so, how?
A: I would say it helped highlight who really grinds behind the scenes.
A: I write the music and most of the lyrics, so from there i'll bring it to our jam room and we mold it into what you hear on the records. We're a band and we wouldn't sound the way we do without collaboration.
Q: For the band's aesthetic, where do some of those influences and images derive from?
A: Supermodel Taxidermy's content is pulled from societal horrors and subjects that are hard to deal with. We like to have listeners question the subject at hand and wondering if they should also be looking for a different outcome. Our name alone is a big fuck you to world that is trying to tell us how we should look or what we should wear. A: Some high energy chaos, count on that! we'll see you in the pit.
Q: Lastly, what is one piece of advice you would give to any aspiring artists out there?
A: Don't give up, stack you lyrics, keep your files, record those riffs, build all that shit up and soon it will be more than enough to put on your own album. No else is coming to do it for you, so make it happen!
