A Surprising Fourth: bbno$'s 'i don't care at all'
BBNO$: I DON'T CARE AT ALL
SCORE: 69/100
i don’t care at all is bbno$'s "proper" project of 2019, with the project being less reliant on features and more focused on his aesthetic changes and bearings in his sound - with this project marking his first collaboration with Yung Gravy, who would later become his closest peer.
Surprisingly enough, i don't care at all manages to be Gumuchian's best project at this particular point in his career, with his flowing seeming much more enthusiastic and his sound actually being all there. This project sounds like exactly what you would expect from Gumuchian sonically without being as dull as his previous three projects, and it showcases a level of improvement that I thought would surely be unheard of from him considering the low bar that his entire discography has set.
The production on this LP is surprisingly fluid and legitimately enjoyable at times, with clear improvements backing this album as one of his most consistent projects despite some flips in quality that are still evident in his sound - something that will apparently never change within Gumuchian's discography no matter how far in you go.
On recess, it was clear to see that Gumuchian had started to find an ear for what would gain attention on social media in particular, with this ability assisting him on songs like shining on my ex that are tongue-in-cheek and bouncy in their production and lyrics in a way that is finely catered to an online crowd; and it works.
Despite clear issues in Gumuchian's personal style choices that seep through into his music, this album is considerably more palatable and slightly more enjoyable than his other projects - which says a lot for the standard that projects like bb steps had set for the Vancouver-based rapper.
I was (shockingly enough) pleasantly surprised by this project - and it showcases a side of genuine hope for his discography that could not quite be seen and picked at on his previous three projects, with this one undoubtedly being the project that is worth your time.
I guess the 4th time did become the charm!
