Long Weekend Metal at the Chill House: Assailant Headline Alongside Burnt Lung, The Getmines, and Human Pesticide

The Easter long weekend was kicked off with a bang at the Chill House, with a very social atmosphere and loud music leading to one of the most excellent turnouts that the venue has had in recent times. This was a return to the packed, massive shows - and with the lineup that was set for the night? It's clear to see why.

A great selection of new and familiar bands were brought to the Chill House, making for a massive turnout and a lively crowd that did not disappoint. It was a refreshing night at the venue that brought a massive chunk of the community together for some loud music and incredible bands.

The night was highly social, and the venue felt like one massive hangout with killer metal thrown around the venue for the entire night. It was a show that ran until late and made sure that every minute was spent thrashing, moshing, and headbanging; and it was without a doubt one of the most unforgettable nights that the venue has seen so far in 2026.

----------------------------------------

Human Pesticide opened the night up with a unique style and heavy sound, with their loud, punky metal sound using strong screamy vocals and catchy riffs to make the band known.

The night was just getting started, yet the energy was through the roof within one set. Human Pesticide made sure to command the venue with their loud, infectious sound - and the crowd was entirely sold on them and their sound to an incredible degree. The energy in the Chill House was off the charts, and there was no better way to open up such a variety-filled show.

It's clear that they're massively beloved in the scene, and they had the crowd hit an incredibly early peak in energy with a highly varied set and a heavy sound that was almost too loud for the venue to contain - it's clear that the band works together well, and they're steadily making a name for themselves. It's incredible to be able to see that a band is still new and upcoming, and they're a band that are sure to become household names in the local scene; even more so than they are now.

The band's sound was exceptionally catchy and exhilarating, with a riffy palate and punchy sounds being mixed with great bass and rough vocals. The band made sure to reign in a perfect blend of heavy and catchy - and the result was one of the most memorable sets of the night with a lead singer that stands out by tenfold.

The crowd made sure to match the energy of the band, fueling them with cheers and a massive amount of moshing to get the night started off right. The crowd was highly excited and clearly stoked to see the band - and it was no wonder as to why. Their sound was shatteringly loud, and it was clear to see on stage that the band works together very well as a team, making for a sound that is cohesive and sharp.

Their set was incredibly well organized and well mixed, with great sound atmosphere and loud sonic elements blaring through the entire venue. No matter where you were in the venue, you could hear the band loud and clear through their danceable sound.

There was a great mix of brand new material, familiar songs for fans, and one cover in their setlist, making for exceptional variety and an incredibly high-energy set that never once died down. The crowd was entirely hooked in to the band's set for their entire runtime, and they made sure to put on a good show for everyone in attendance.

The band's set was fueled by powerful vocals ranging from clean to screams, and their commanding sound brought in the talents of each individual member on a very large scale - making them one of the most exceptional acts of the night. They were immediately known on the stage with a memorable style and unique band members creating a set for the books, and their loud sound shook the venue from bottom to top.

Human Pesticide are one of those bands that you have to see live, and their massively infectious energy was felt throughout the entire Chill House on Thursday night. It was an exciting and massively energetic set that had the night started off with a giant peak of energy; and the show was just getting started.

The Getmines played a fog-filled set of loud hardcore punk to match the energy left off with Human Pesticide, and their flashy style provided a unique touch to the night. It was a show packed full of variety, and getting to see so many unique bands hit the stage within the same night was something truly incredible.

The Getmines are a band that immediately brighten up any stage that they are on, and their unique and flashy style was something much appreciated within the Chill House. Their sound was the perfect blend of both upbeat and heavy for the night, and they made sure to play it loud and proud.

They played a longer set than expected, which was a pleasant surprise for the night. Their sound mixes distinct genres and makes sure to keep it heavy and fun at it's core - and their set was hugely bassy and striking. Their performance style utilized energy and heavy smoke machines; and it was one of the most unique performances that has hit the Chill House in its recent schedule.

The band made sure to be as energetic as possible throughout their entire thumpy set, and it was a sight to behold throughout the venue. Never have I ever seen so much fog from smoke machines in one place - and it's clear that the band loves their visual effects and putting on a memorable, high-energy show more than anything.

Their set was made memorable by shiny golden jackets and a potent energy that gave off a genuine love for what it is they do. It's clear to see that the band loves performing - and they're a great trio of kind souls that know how to rock.

Burnt Lung struck the Chill House with a long-form Stoner Rock set that was all parts unique and immersive, with a grimy and rough sound providing something less intense, but still very much so heavy.

This performance marked the band's second time in Chilliwack, and they made sure to make themselves memorable for the local crowd. This is a band worth travelling for, and they put on one hell of a performance at the Chill House despite how laid back it may have seemed from the surface.

Their progressive sound was something unique for the night, bringing a new kind of metal to the Chill House and utilizing a throbbing Stoner Metal sound palate to make for an exceptionally memorable and enjoyable set in sound and sonic elegance. Their set had a sound that built up gradually and kicked hard, and their utilization of strong vocals was something that gave them a deeply potent stage presence.

This show marked the first date of their ongoing tour, and they chose a great venue and lineup to co-headline on, with Assailant leaving the night off with some Blackened Thrash Metal after an incredible touring set. Burnt Lung were one of the most unique aspects of the entire night, and their tour will be your chance to catch them if you weren't able to be in the packed crowd Thursday night.

The band brought along brand new material that had never been played live before, and they're sure to please with any upcoming music that they may posses. They made sure to interact with the crowd to make their set memorable and enjoyable for everyone present, and their low, thumpy sound had a high amount of energy that had people moshing throughout.

Assailant played their second-ever headlining set at the Chill House to end the night off with a massive 30-minute bang, and they ensured that this was one of their absolute best performances. They were well-organized and social, showcasing how they have come out of their shells since the early days of the band while creating an enjoyable and remarkable atmosphere for everyone involved.

They're a band that truly never gets old - and this set was one of their most immersive. They put on a much longer show than usual with extra material and effort put in to making themselves even more memorable than ever before; and it's clear to see that they're improving and getting bigger with every single performance that they put on.

As always, Assailant performed a set that was loud and commanding, successfully grabbing the attention of everyone in the venue and doing the most crowd-work that I have seen from the band so far. The result was a set that was packed full of energy, mosh pits, and exceptional performance antics from across the board.

Throughout their set, you could tell that each member was genuinely enjoying themselves and relishing in the energy being given to them, making for a show that was heightened by the enthusiasm of the band. This made them even more sharp in their playing, and every single member made sure to bring something exceptional to the table.

Never will you find a band as well-structured as Assailant. They are a band where every single member gives their all, and their consistency in quality is something that you can't find in an average band. It's not a surprise to see the cult following that they have garnered in the Chilliwack area as well as the outskirts of the Lower Mainland, and seeing them get bigger and better with every show is something incredibly rewarding to see live.

The band played both new and old material, with a cover and an older song making their way into the jam-packed setlist. Rarely does the band go on for a 30-minute set, but they gave their all and made sure to play it loud and harsh for their entire set. It was a set that never stopped, and the energy was through the roof from beginning to end. The pits were out of control, and the band was feeding into the reaction of the crowd with more and more music. It's clear to see that their sound is expanding, and their performance style has become sharper and much more confident.

Assailant's Blackened Thrash Metal sound could be heard throughout the entire area during their performance, and they were entirely in their element throughout the entire performance. This long-form set allowed for them to do what they do best for even longer than usual, and their extra material made the night.

The band put on what was without a doubt one of their absolute best performances; and it didn't get much more definitive of the band than it did on this night. For those who missed it, you can find my footage of their ENTIRE SET live on YouTube.

There's never a dull moment at shows like this one, and the Chill House rocked the entire block for hours Thursday night. It was yet another unforgettable series of moments that turned into one of the best shows of the year so far, and a massive thank you goes out to everyone who made it possible.

Thank you to Jen for being the head-woman of the doors, as well as Tyler Ferguson for helping to manage the doors alongside her. I appreciate both of you for being such exceptionally kind and social people, and for managing the venue so well. The  same can be said about Tyler Ollenberger, who owns and runs the venue. Keeping the doors of such a sacred and important place open for youth and local music fanatics is such an incredible feat, and no amount of kindness could ever match the importance of the Chill House and everyone behind it.

Big thanks to girlswithfilm photography for allowing me to use such incredible action shots of Assailant while I was not able to capture photos of my own, and for always sharing the space alongside me and chatting with me. It's been an honour to work with you. Thank you to all of the bands who came out, and a massive applause to Assailant for enlisting me to film for them and for putting on such a great set to have captured.

Stay tuned for even more metal madness at the Chill House all throughout April - you won't want to miss out on even more exclusive show content all throughout the year!
