HOLD THE MUSTARD PRODUCTIONS: A Pre-Tour Catchup with Plague Doctor

British Columbia Deathcore band Plague Doctor are headed onto the road towards Alberta, where they will be headlining the TRIPLE THREAT THROWDOWN tour, which spans across various Alberta dates.

Plague Doctor are without a doubt one of the best metal bands based in Canada, and the BC locals are making sure to hit all the stops in Alberta so that Canadian's on the other side of the spectrum don't miss out on some headbanging, skull smashing, and moshing.

The band's humour mixed with a deeply heavy sound makes for a highly entertaining live show - and they're one of Canada's must-see bands.

I was lucky enough to catch up with Joey, the band's drummer, for an exclusive catch-up interview after the first video interview I had done with the band, this allowed for the gap in time to be filled with even more new tour-related information - and you won't want to miss out on the interview below the cut!

------------------------------

Q: For those who didn't catch the last interview with the entire band at the Chill House, what is your role in the band like? Introduce yourself for those who might not know you.

A: I’m Joey Dudas , I play drums in PlagueDoctor. And I guess you could say I’m the captain of this ship. I book all the shows and try and keep the wheels on the ground.
Q: If you could describe the sound of Plague Doctor in one word, what might that word be?

A: Chaos
Q: What do you expect the Plague Doctor tour to bring in? Attendance, new fans?

A: This will be our second time touring Alberta. The first time was amazing and the response was actually unreal. So this time we are hitting Edmonton and Red Deer for the first time aswell. So we’re just excited to play in front of new people and hopefully gain a few new friends and fans. Attendance is always something I get anxious about if I’m being honest. And this tour being on the same night as Lorna shore in both Edmonton and Calgary but be a challenge. But we’re bringing you a more affordable all ages option if you don’t want to pay the arena scale prices!
Q: Is there anything new that the band is bringing to the stage for this tour?

A: Lyndsay is bringing a brand new hot dog roller. Does that count ? We’re going to be up to the same old silly plague doctor antics, let’s be real. If you’ve seen us live before. You know we’re going to bring some sense of humor to the stage. And who knows maybe a hot dog eating contest? The options are endless.
Q: What does Plague Doctor bring to the stage when it comes to performing?

A: We just want everyone to have fun. We want everyone to have a good laugh. Metal is too serious these days. We want you to laugh between songs, and then rip your friends heads off. Lots of humor and lots of energy.

Q: What is the most important aspect of this tour for you personally?

A: To be honest, I just want it to be over. I’ve been booking this since November. With help from Dave from TJTJ and Agnes our photographer and tour manager. It’s been a struggle to say the least. And lots of things haven’t gone as smoothly as we would’ve liked. But we just want to bring our music to new people! So the struggle is worth the pay off I think.
Q: What are some of your biggest wishes for the tour?

A: We just want to be noticed. We want to remain relevant in the scene. And not just here in BC. We want to show we can hang with some of the bigger bands and we would like to be considered for some bigger shows and festivals in the future!
Q: Is there any places you are particularly looking forward to performing in, or any people you are excited to work with?

A: I think all these shows are going to be special in their own way ….

Lethbridge is the home town of our old bass player Tyler. Who had to leave us last year to be with his family. So we’re excited to see him and his family and maybe he will join us on stage? Who knows.
Edmonton is going to be a crazy show . The four other bands were playing with that night , it’s their homebase . Lyndsays family is also in Edmonton , we have alot of friends coming out to that one too! So it should be a great big party.
Calgary was the first show we had to juggle around. Originally we were selected to play Gatorfest. But sadly that had to be postponed to October. So we scrambled a bit and linked up with black ice promotions and we booked the Rock shop . Which we are super excited for. And the way the schedules panned out we were able to add our Vancouver friends JISEI to the bill for this one too. So this one should be super fun!
Red deer we have some friends coming too! And the promoters have added some special vendors to the show aswell!
Q: Have there been any challenges arranging the tour? If so - how have you overcome those hurdles?

A: Oh man have there ever been lol. Promoter changes / venue changes / show changes. It’s been a long 6 months of planning. You just need to stay positive and roll with the punches honestly. Tour booking is not an easy task. But like I’ve said. The struggle is all worth it in the end. And I feel super accomplished once the smoke as cleared and I can see everyone having a great time. But if you see me out in the wild … maybe give me a hug hahah.
Q: Lastly, what is one piece of advice you would give to any other artists who are hoping to some day go on tour?

A: Just get out there and do it! And the first time you do it, you might play to some empty rooms, you might not even get paid. Be prepared to spend money you might not ever see again. But I’ll tell you one thing. The next time you go out to the same place, more people will show up. Stay persistent, stay positive. Don’t expect the booking to be easy. Find some local bands to where you’re going, play with them. Network, Network, Network. Never stop networking. Things will eventually pay off!

Albertan metal fans, this tour is your chance to see one of BC's best mixed-genre bands live on the stage! You won't want to miss out on this killer live music opportunity, and Plague Doctor are sure to give you your money's worth.
