HOLD THE MUSTARD PRODUCTIONS: Get to Know The Judge The Juror Ahead of Their Tour Stops
Edmonton "PSYDEATHTECHPROG" band The Judge The Juror will be performing across Alberta alongside British Columbia's very own Plague Doctor, and this tour is something Albertan metal fans won't want to miss out on.
The band's deeply layered and progressive sound is unlike any other metal band you'll stumble across - and their musical run so far can not be beat.
You won't find a sound quite like what the band best self-describes as "PSYDEATHTECHPROG", and it's a sound worthy of its name. Their steady impact and hard-hitting songs mark a reign of complexity and progressive metal on a different scale than what most bands surround themselves with and create - and it leads to an incredibly solid discography that is still evolving and taking shape for the band.
For those looking to get to know the band before the tour, be sure to read below the cut for an exclusive interview with the vocalist/synth player of The Judge The Juror!
Q: What is your role in the band like? Introduce yourself for those who may not know you.
A: Hello! I’m David and I’m the vocalist / synthesist of The Judge The Juror! Mainly I look stupid on stage for your entertainment, but I also handle most of our back end (booking, social media, etc.)
Q: How long have you been making music, and how long have you been making music with The Judge the Juror?
A: I first started fronting bands at around age 14 and no one has figured out how to get rid of me yet. My time with TJTJ started in 2021 and it’s been an amazing ride so far.
Q: What inspired the name of the band?
A: Honestly, it was one of many names being thrown around that just sort of stuck. When we started to really understand the vision of the band, we considered changing it, but there’s something about the name that makes the way we sound seem unexpected, so we ended up keeping it
Q: Do you have any musical influences that shine through in your music?
A: For me, I’m influenced by a lot of scenes that are outside of the music we make. For example one of my biggest synth inspiration is a band like Enter Shikari, because they find new and interesting ways to incorporate electronic elements into a genre that doesn't typically explore those sounds.
Q: How has your life shaped your music?
A: I draw inspiration from largely from the world I find myself in, so everything I try to write has some reflection of experiences I’ve had or been witness to. We all share this planet, and we all suffer from the way it works, whether we’re aware of it or not,
Q: What are some of the most important things about performing for you?
A:for me it’s always about trying to bring the most enjoyable experience to the audience, whether they’re familiar with us or not.
Q: How do you feel about supporting a tour? Nervous? Excited?
A: So excited! This is our second official run with the sweet babies in Plague Doctor and we can wait to get going!
Q: Do you think that touring shows are different than one-off performances? If so, why?
A: Absolutely, touring requires you to be cognizant of the fact that you have to do this multiple nights in a row, lol. Also, it’s an even bigger chance to reach new audiences!
Q: What will you be bringing to the stage for these tour shows alongside Plague Doctor?
A: We’ll be bringing our intense sound and performance, along with a couple brand new tunes that we will be debuting!
Q: If you could describe your sound in one word, what might that word end up being?
A: We have the perfect made up word: PSYDEATHTECHPROG! Summed up, its psychedelic progressive tech death
Q:What do you look forward to most for this tour?
A: Playing some new venues and new cities, plus getting to spend time with the Plague Doctor boys and new friends Bogwalker
Q: What are your biggest hopes for the future of the band?
A: if we can keep doing what we’re doing, as well as looking for new and exciting opportunities, I’ll be a happy camper
Q: Lastly, what is one piece of advice you would give to any aspiring artists out there?
A: Be yourself, make the music you want to hear, and get out there and do it!
