California Punk Legends Death By Stereo Hit the Chill House Alongside La Armada, Malevolent, and New World On Fire

The Chill House was hit with a massive wave of large-scale concert energy this Friday, with Death by Stereo's Flawed Theology tour hitting the venue alongside La Armada. This show brought something non-local to the venue, a rare, but enjoyable sight. The Chill House just keeps getting bigger and better in terms of shows and booking; and this is one of many shows that prove it.

Each band managed to pull a MASSIVE turnout for the venue - leaving room for people to mosh to the extreme while still filling the venue with people steadily. It's a show that made for a packed night of fun and heavy songs, and the social atmosphere in the venue was off the charts. It pulled a bustling crowd that ranged from babies to adults, and it was one of the most diverse crowds that the venue has ever seen.

Such a massive lineup made for a massive show, and this Chill House stop marked only the second date of Death By Stereo & La Armada's tour. The tour marks the release of Flawed Theology, which is the first Death By Stereo release in years. You can listen to the fresh single HERE.

The show itself was full of variety, with bands from different places and backgrounds coming together to each serve up something different and unique in their sounds and sonic elements of performance. Each performer gave their all and put on a show to remember - and it was a late night of adrenaline that no one will ever forget.

--------------------------------------------------------

New World On Fire opened up the night with one of the largest crowd peaks of the entire show, with this set being their first in over two decades. It marked the return of one of the most important bands in the local scene; and hearing stories from fans from decades ago made the experience feel even more enlightening and enjoyable in every way. Their set was a massive family affair that put community first; and it was without a doubt one of the most important sets that the Fraser Valley community has come together for in a long time.

New World On Fire made sure to play it loud and aggressively, with a sharp sound that you could feel in your bones throughout the bands entire set. Their sound was deeply immersive and perfect for the Chill House; and they made sure not to go easy. The band gave their all into a set that was all parts fire and no filler, and the resulting crowd was crazy and full of pits, movement, and packed sections throughout the venue.

The crowd conversation from the band was great, and they played both familiar old material and some newer material that truly showcased that the band is back and ready to play more shows. Seeing them back at the Chill House would mean the world to the community, and their part in the Friday show was one of the most important pieces of the community puzzle when it comes to heavy local music in Chilliwack.

Their set was completely exhilarating and truly fun on every level; and there's no wondering as to how New World On Fire have been such a well-known name in the local scene. The band worked exceptionally well together on stage, making sure to showcase the individual talents of members while keeping everything comprehensive and enjoyable for the entire crowd.

The incredibly active nature of their set meant that bodies were moving and skulls were smashing throughout, and they added flair to the night by making sure the lineup had variety from punk to metal all the way back to a fusion of both of the genres later on in the night.

The band showcased a hardcore punk sound with a great level of crowd work and stage presence, with the vocalist of the band constantly moving and making sure to put on a performance that had both visual and sonic appeal through movement and engagement with the sound that was being executed. The result was a set that had the crowd moving - and it was no wonder to see why New World On Fire are such an important band in the scene all these years later.

New World On Fire managed to put on one of the most lively performance of the entire night - and they're wanted back at the Chill House as soon as they can make it for another show.

To bring something local and deeply important to the stage, Malevolent put on a set full of passion and energy that honoured the late Blake Thody in a deeply resonant set that Chilliwack fans were highly excited for. This performance marked one of the first Malevolent sets at the Chill House in a very long time - and to say that they were missed would be an understatement.

The progressive death metal band are highly influenced by games like The Elder Scrolls in their lyrical content, which provided a great energy to the venue with unique themes and an infectious energy that was focused on letting the crowd move while the band performed a sonic masterclass of metal on a very large scale.

It was an exceptionally loud performance that had the energy of the venue immediately high and excited within an instant, and fans of the band were absolutely stoked to be seeing them on stage again after the loss of their bassist. This performance was another exceptional way for the band to carry on his legacy, and the sheer respect that the members clearly have for their late bandmate is a highly touching thing that was felt on every heart in the community.

This set was something even heavier for the night to get the energy up higher before the co-headliners of the night, La Armada. Malevolent gave their all and were the young band of the night, and the co-vocal performance was without a doubt one of the most impressive vocal deliveries that I have heard in the entire Fraser Valley metal scene.

Their focus on  instrumental work and heavy grooves means that their performances are perfect for the formation of pits - and there was no better night for it than this one.

Malevolent made sure that their set was deeply immersive and strong for the crowd, and they received all of their skill back in energy waves being fed to them by the crowd. Their long, technical songs allowed for mosh pits to ride out, and some of the crowd action was absolutely insane to see live in person. The band's unique songs drove their performance into masterful territory, and their mix of old and new material worked wonders towards keeping the crowd engaged at every turn.

The band played a stunning set full of high energy and immersive sounds full of depth and sonic prowess, and it's clear to see that Malevolent are some of the most important young talents in the local scene. Their sound is unlike any of the other bands that frequent the venue, and it's clear to see why they are so beloved in the community.

La Armada hail all the way from the Dominican Republic, and their Caribbean culture is what helps to shape them and their image. Their co-headlining tour alongside Death By Stereo has been an unreal achievement for the band, and they made sure to show the Canadian crowd at the Chill House what they're all about through cultural stories and inspirational advice for all of the artists who were watching in the crowd that night.

The band performed an incredibly loud and intense set that was fueled by powerful political messages and statements that showcased strength in every member of the band - especially knowing how far they have come. Their dramatic atmosphere created a steady build into madness that had the crowd going wild; and they were one of the most energetic performers of the entire night despite how surging and electrifying the entire night managed to be.

The performance included unique sonic elements and an incredible energy that no other band could pull off. Their unique sound made them one of the biggest highlights of an incredible night, and their stage presence was something fine-tuned into a massive spectacle that made them known and loved by the very first moments of their set alone.

Great stage movement and crowd interaction were also important parts of La Armada's performance. The singer of the band was constantly moving and making sure to project himself on the stage in a way that made the entire band shine - and this movement was a deeply important piece of their set that brought the energy and charm of the band up even higher.

A mix of new and prior material made sure that their set was deeply interesting in terms of variety in the material that was played, and they made sure to showcase how much they truly love their craft. The passion of the band was off the charts; and a band this unique and rooted in their culture has never graced the Chill House until this Friday show - meaning that La Armada were also deeply innovative and unique in every way.

The set was absolutely nonstop with no chains or resistance, and the band showcased that they know how to put on one hell of a show in every way possible. It was a harsh and intense display of cultural rage and political stances - and seeing something so deeply political and brave was something that you won't find anywhere else; and it's something that makes a band immediately respectable in every way possible.

Death By Stereo chose Chilliwack as their second stop through Canada - and to call having a legendary band all the way from California at the Chill House a shock would almost be an understatement.

The members of Death By Stereo are some of the nicest possible people within the punk music scene, and their performances are sure to change your life as their show did mine. Their music is so packed full of energy, and they make sure to always include the crowd in their heavy antics - making for a show that is full of moshing and incredible energy from start to finish.

The pits got wild and the show was drastic - and Death By Stereo made sure to put on one of the most memorable sets that the Chill House stage has ever seen. Their performance was raw, fast, and completely nonstop. It was perfectly catered to fans while being something that newcomers could enjoy in every way, and their performance was completely invigorating.

Seeing Death By Stereo was one of the biggest rushes of adrenaline that I have ever experienced at a show - and this show felt like something bigger. Something real

In all my time attending shows, I have never been to one that has been as fun and exciting as seeing Death By Stereo was. The singer made sure to include everyone, going out of his way to perform within the crowd and sing along with fans while making sure everyone was included and excited during the entire performance. The result was a set that ran until late at night, and it was one of the most unforgettable collections of moments that I have ever seen at the Chill House.

This Friday show will be a hard one to beat - and a massive thank you is in order to the Chill House for making it possible. Thank you to Jen and Tyler Ferguson for keeping the environment safe and welcoming while running the doors at every show, and to Tyler Ollenberger for running the place.

Thank you to everyone who came out and made the show as much of a blast as it wound up being - and to all of the bands for giving their all and reigning hell on the venue's stage from eight until eleven that night. It was a late night of some of the best music imaginable, and it doesn't get much better than the lineup that was hosted on this night.
