An Unsavoury Debut: bbno$'s 2016 Self-Titled Album
BBNO$: BABYNOMONEY (2016)
SCORE: 40/100
bbno$ is a rapper who fits into a certain "subgenre" of rap that is completely undesirable to listen to - with this album being much different than the flashy "meme rap" that he is known for today.
This album is highly questionable in it's choices, with a solid level of production being overshadowed by Gumuchian's less-than ideal rapping abilities. His flow is almost completely nonexistent throughout the album's runtime, and a 29 minute album manages to drag within minutes of its runtime.
Rarely can such a short project feel like such a massive overshot in its runtime and composition, but a great register of beats is almost entirely thrown astray by Gumuchian's lack of any true abilities when it comes to providing a satisfying flow. The same brainless producer tag is used on every single song on the 10-track debut album, and the project is so inconsistent it's hard to get through.
Gumuchian is highly spotty throughout this album, with the project ranging from decent to entirely grating in every way. It isn't that he is a terrible rapper by any means, but babynomoney is a gimmicky, flaunty, and underdeveloped project that is lyrically incoherent and structurally a mess.
Unfortunately enough, the production on babynomoney is great, especially for a trap album. The songs are almost there in their sound - but hearing a Canadian white male trying to capitalize off of the sounds made famous by black musicians and talents is almost appalling at times. The lack of self-awareness present within the entire album makes Gumuchian almost humiliating to listen to; and almost nothing on this album lands in the way that it should.
It's no wonder as to why Gumuchian himself chooses to bury this album like it never happened - and yet it still manages to be significantly more tolerable than the music that he creates now to appeal to a Gen-Z audience that oftentimes wants nothing to do with him OR his music.
babynomoney is a weak trap/cloud rap album that uses a slow and unsteady flow that creates a deeply grating sound almost immediately. It's clear that Gumuchian isn't experienced in his craft on this 2016 debut; but did his sound ever really improve?
This dude?? Ah! Scary cover...🤔 Surely a character. Glad you survived this album
