HOLD THE MUSTARD PRODUCTIONS: Learn All About Tortion Before they Hit a City Near You
The band hails from Kamloops, and they will bring even more death metal to the stage this Saturday thanks to Hold the Mustard - it's a show that you cannot miss, and you won't want to sit at home this Saturday.
Tortion blend thrash and death metal into something incredibly harsh and loud, playing their sound up and creating an unforgettable style within their music. The band has been steadily releasing singles on their Spotify, and their sound is sure to get the pits moving.
With memorable riffs and exceptionally upfront vocals, the band makes themselves known through their sound; a sound that is completely perfect for live music. The band works hard to create a massively interesting and polished sound in their music, and the turnout is incredibly apparent.
Tortion are a band that prides themselves on heaviness and songs that let the grooves ride out, making for songs that pack a massive punch and violently step out onto the scene through stomping, clobbering rhythms.
I had the honour of communicating with Riley Journeay, the bands vocalist, who was wonderful enough to take the time out of the band's busy schedule to answer some exclusive questions that will help fans and newcomers to get to know the band before their stops throughout British Columbia on their tour alongside Plague Doctor, Muscle Crow, and nobody. - it's a lineup you won't want to miss out on, and you can learn more about the band below the cut.

Q: What is your role in the band like? Is there anything unexpected about it?
A: As being the vocalist and frontman in the band, primarily screaming and growling into a microphone. Sometimes in a studio and sometimes in people’s faces haha. One thing that is unexpected but is amazing is the power and energy from a crowd that reflects back and fuels our performance. Just a continuous back and forth of energy and intensity that really makes a show insane. It’s really cool.
Q: What about your other bandmates? Tell us about them!
A: Cohen (Meegan) and Connor (Hebner) are one of the sickest guitar duos I’ve ever seen. There back and forth solos are always mind blowing and they have just an intense flow in the riffs they bring to the table. Kyle (Kansky) definitely brings stage presence on another level. His violent head banging never stops along with his pounding bass parts. Floyd (Drugge) never fails to amaze with his groovy but killer drum parts and solos. Just an absolute machine on the drums. We definitely make one killer unit haha.
Q: What can fans and newcomers expect from your upcoming tour alongside Muscle Crowe?
A: Definitely a lot of intensity and lot of vicious head banging haha. Just bringing that violent thrashing death metal attack non stop and giving it our all!
Q: What are some of the most important aspects of your performance style?
A: Engaging and putting on an entertaining show for a crowd. Moving around and making a lot of evil/ugly faces usually does the trick. But most importantly involving the audience in what we do especially in my role as the frontman.
Q:. A tour is a very big milestone for a band, what are your feelings surrounding it?
A: Nervous but immensely excited and grateful for the opportunity. We have never done a tour before so this will definitely be a learning experience and very memorable one!
Q: What are some of your favorite memories when it comes to performing?
A: One that comes to mind was when we played Kelowna last year around the same time and I was practically in the mosh pit while performing. It was quite an experience. Also in general seeing the other guys expressions when we really sound killer is also some favourite memories.
Q: Upcoming music? What can fans know to look for in the future?
A: We just finished recording our EP and it’s definitely an evolution in our sound and craftsmanship as a band. A lot of our new material off that will be debuting on this tour and we are so stoked for it. More information is to come on it but be on the lookout for something coming out very shortly. It’s insane!
Q: How long have you been in the music scene for?
A: I’ve been in the music scene for a little while now. Fairly new if you consider two years being in a band new, but I have been going to shows for years and the energy in the scene has inspired me and continues to do so.
Q: What/who inspires you and the music you make alongside the band?
A: I’d say we are very inspired by early thrash and death metal along with some traditional metal thrown in the mix. German thrash bands like Kreator and Sodom for that violent speed and bands like Morbid Angel for the growling heavy vocals and eerie riffs. If that’s your cup of tea, you’ll definitely get that with us.
Q: How did Tortion start off?
A: I joined the band in September of 2024 but the band originally started at the end of 2023 with three of the guys. Kyle, Cohen and Floyd with Sawyer Camphaug originally fronting the band. With a quick lineup change throughout that year, Me and Connor were brought in and it’s been history ever since haha
Q: Do you have plans for even more touring in the future?
A: Yes hopefully do something with our new EP that’s coming and also more material that we have in store. Just get out there and play to a wider audience! Q: Lastly, what is a piece of advice you would give to aspiring artists?
A: Throw away your ego and limitations on yourself and primarily do it for the love of creating art and giving an experience to others. That’s what truly matters in the end.
