Unofficial Importance: Skrillex's Lost 'Gost' Compilation

SKRILLEX: GOST

SCORE: 95/100

One of Skrillex's most unknown projects takes the form of Gost, which was unofficially released in 2009 as a compilation of various songs and remixes that he had made before his breakout success in 2010; with this project acting as a bumper of experimentation before his career as Skrillex had kicked of.

Gost runs for almost an hour in length, and it is made up of some of Moore's best tracks despite it being considered a "lost album" put together by fans. This is without a doubt his most unofficial release, as it was not based around a planned album, it was rather put together by die-hard Skrillex fans and based around rarities, demos, and remixes with the title and artwork coming from a T-shirt design by the clothing design Gost.

Some of Moore's most eclectic tracks reside on this LP, with remixes of artists like Lady Gaga, Snoop Dogg, and The All-American Rejects as well as songs that are in his usual dubstep/brostep style that are paired with more intense tracks, with I Know Who You Are being his first and only (that we know of) breakcore song. The compilation LP ranges from electro house back over to brostep - and some of his absolute best tracks are on this album.

For die-hard fans, you are sure to hear bits and pieces of his other projects within this one, with one of the major breaks in track four being the break in Mora off of his Gypsyhook EP, and other pieces of the puzzle coming together to form into some of his released tracks and stylized elements that would turn him into such a major staple in EDM.

With this project, it truly showcases how on top of his game Skrillex was in the late 2000's into the 2010's, with his style being something no other producer could come anywhere near. If I could recommend just one singular electronic producer to someone, it would be him every time without any shadow of a doubt, with this project being one of his most unique, versatile, and comprehensive pieces of music that spans various different subgenres for all different kinds of electronic fans.
