Norwegian Glory: A Session With LIVERUM
LIVERUM have been creating complex metal music for over a decade now, and their new album Meaning Will Travel marks an era of triumph for the Norwegian/Polish metal band. Their sound is widely compared to Gojira, and their complexity is something highly potent and deeply refreshing on all fronts.
The band originates from Oslo, Norway, and they have been creating music since 2015 - with their debut album Discover Your Land being released in 2017. The years between their music allows for careful precision and complex, meaningful music - and they're still continuing to grow and flourish in their sound and artistry.
They're a band that deserves a major amount of fame compared to the attention that they get - and it's a shock that they aren't yet up with the massive names in metal; they manage to be one of the best, more underground metal bands you can stumble across, and knowing how organic and original their sound is makes them that much more enjoyable.
LIVERUM's music can best be described as cinematic - it's something that deeply resonates with its sonic elements, and all four of the members manage something exceptional in each of their areas of expertise.
I was honored to be able to get an in-depth look at the band and the brains behind it by conducting an interview with them, and you can hear all about the album from the band directly under the cut.
------------------------------------
Q: What is your role in the band like?
A: I am the one who creates the music and gives it direction. Of course, I like to discuss the things we make with the others, but at this point it feels very natural and it seems like they put a lot of trust in me, which I really appreciate. I also try to embrace the other side of being a musician, like marketing, but creating is definitely my stronger side. Q: What is the most meaningful piece of music you have created?
A: It is hard to answer since metal music is very honest to me and all the songs I have ever made are meaningful in some way. I focus a lot on human greed and the cost of it, and on the deeper meaning of life, because I believe there is more to life than just trying to get rich. I am not saying money is bad, it is all about balance and at what cost. Both the first and second albums are very meaningful to me.
Q: Other than creating music, what do you enjoy doing?
A: I love cars. Any kind, as long as they have soul. All of us are very active in general, skiing, running and going to the gym, it is all just fun for us. I personally really enjoy swimming. Q: Are you inspired by different atmospheres when you create music?
A: Yes. Actually everything except happy music. We listen to all kinds of music with different atmospheres and I believe it is very healthy. But as I said, happy music just does not grab me. Have you ever noticed that even the biggest pop or electro songs have a hint of sadness in them. That is what grabs you because it feels real.
Q: How would you describe your new album?
A: I would say it is a very energetic album with big contrasts and many variations. We put a lot of work into it and it feels so good. We are very happy with it. Usually I do not listen to my own songs, but this album changed that.
Q: Where do you plan to go musically in the future?
A: I do not know yet because I do not really want to plan it too much. But I can already hear in the new riffs for the next album that they are becoming more melodic. We will see how it goes, but at this point I would like to move in a more progressive direction. And I probably need to buy a seven string guitar to add even more contrast to the music.

You always introduce me to new music!! I loved reading this and I will have to check them out ^^
