New Release Friday: Metal Returns as Converge Release 'Love Is Not Enough'
CONVERGE: LOVE IS NOT ENOUGH
SCORE: 70/100
Converge have been established within the metal scene for over three decades, and this album continues to carry out their sludgy metal sound mixed with genres like hardcore punk, mathcore, and metalcore.
For a band that is so many albums deep into their musical journey, Converge sound sharp as ever on this album; and every piece of their career has led up to this modern moment that showcases that they've still got it in them, and they aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
The songs are potent and full of various twists and turns, and rarely can a band pull together songs that are under two minutes and make them feel so comprehensive. It's a massively unwinding look at Converge and the sound that they have worked for 35 years to create, and it's a giant victory lap for the band in every sense of the word.
The album is completely seamless, with everything blending together exceptionally well and creating an album that throws out punch after punch - it's sharp and highly jagged, but everything sticks just enough to make it one of the most important modern metalcore releases of the last five years; it's rare that we get larger-scale projects like this one in the metal scene from established bands, and the reason that they are so far and few in between is due to the fact that they are worked on until they are completely polished and satisfactory.
It's a massively heavy album that kicks off immediately and keeps up an infectious energy - and the short nature of each song makes the album palatable and hugely accessible, phoning in mathcore elements with short, hardcore songs that are loud, abrasive, and highly complex in their sonic elements. Everything is majorly heavy, and this is an exceptional example of modern metalcore done right without all of the elements that oftentimes drag the genre down.

Looks like you're going through all kinds of genres tonight! Love it!
