A Night of Local Punk: February 7th at the Chill House
I will never pass up a chance to go to a show at the Chill House, and the way the venue is run is without a doubt the best in the entire area - never has a venue felt so undeniably safe, inclusive, and welcoming - and the bands that are presented are always absolutely exceptional.
The show on February 7th was one of the most fun, kindhearted shows I have ever been to - with incredible safety and a welcoming atmosphere for people of all kinds to get together and mosh, headbang, dance, and have fun. The show was incredible to see, and from high school bands to veterans in the punk scene, there was chaos and joy all around that night at the Chill House; with this being one of the most memorable and exciting shows I have ever been to.
It was incredibly refreshing and exhilarating to see an all-punk show with elements of other rock genres and ska punk incorporated, and it felt like a glimpse into a time machine where the 80's punk scene was still in full swing; revisited, revised, and rejuvinated through local talent that are exclusive to the Fraser Valley - it's something that you simply cannot miss out on seeing.
Never have I ever had so much interaction at a show with individual band members, and everyone was incredible. It was a true honour to be able to reach out and chat with the bands both in person and over direct messaging, and I cannot be more grateful for the opportunities given to me to film the show; my first time compiling video on this scale and uploading it for a wider audience to view - the footage will be linked at the bottom of this article, so keep reading to watch some incredible punk performances that will rock your socks off!
Each band brought something new and exciting to the table, from politics to mosh pits - this show had it all, and it was an unforgettable night in every sense of the world. Hold the Mustard Productions did an exceptional job with hosting the show, promoting it, and getting suitable artists together - and the result was one of the best shows that I have seen hosted at the Chill House; one of my favorite concert venues I have ever been to. It is always so clean, welcoming, and well-run; it's an absolute must in Chilliwack for any music lovers, and you will surely not be disappointed.
The pacing of the show was something that stood out - everything was more than just on time, with a lot of the sets being earlier than expected, which was a hugely pleasant surprise that kept the ball rolling steadily throughout. Each band had enough time to set up their respective instruments and equipment, and the sound was great; everything was clear, speaking was audible and understandable, and the audio was both sharp and crisp while having a great amount of volume. The management for this show was absolutely incredible, and the biggest props go out to the owners and workers of the Chill House, Hold the Mustard Productions, and everyone involved with playing each respective set.
----------------
In The Flesh were the youngest band there, whom I had seen once before at an acoustic, laid-back set they had played; to call them versatile would be a complete understatement, and they were one of the highlights of the sets throughout the night with their striking mix of both covers and originals, with their new album coming out in March.
Their artistic growth is something absolutely exceptional, and they are a band that you must catch live if you ever get a chance, with every member being a unique talent that possesses incredible skillsets to create one of the most incredible bands in the Chilliwack punk scene. Their politics are apparent, and they know how to get the best messages across. It was incredibly exciting to walk into the venue and hear Magnus (vocalist) chanting against the government, and the whole set felt like a mass rebellion - one that stands on the side of justice and what is right.
The show was opened with the incredible energy that In The Flesh brought to the show, and it was something that made the night infectious from the very start; with fast-paced songs and a stunning set, the band managed to set the basis for the entire night.
----------------
Second on the list for the night were Super Distorter, an incredible local band from the older scene - with the band making music for five decades now. The members in particular were some of the nicest people I have had the pleasure of interacting with within the Chill House walls, and I cannot thank everyone enough for making the experience that night so incredible.
The band was incredible, with a unique lineup of members, great vocals, and stunning music that felt both modern and old-school at the same time in all of the best ways imaginable, with their set blending everything that makes punk great and creating an unforgettable showcase of the band and their talents - making them another group I will always keep my eyes out for on the lineups for show in town.
----------------
Stolen Goods were the band I was most excited to see again, I had caught a set of theirs in the later portion of 2025, and it was a dream come true being able to interact with them more and see them at another show, and their set did not disappoint.
The new drummer of the band was an incredible player with a great energy and playing style, and the interesting information about how the band came to be and their reunion so many years after high school was great to learn - everyone works together incredibly well within the band, and their songs were ones that I knew, with Destination Unknown being a track I was particularly excited about hearing live.
One thing that sets the band apart from others is their incorporations of ska into their sets, which is always a pleasant surprise to hear mixed in with heavier punk music like they usually play, and their dual vocalist setup works for them very, very well.
----------------
80's Canadian legends Death Sentence ended off the night with their electrifying and rowdy set, and the crowd was in full-swing by the later end of the night - their sound did not disappoint, and it was even more interesting to know that the members of Super Distorter were fans of the band when they were kids, too.
The band provided a great energy to close the night off right with, and their set was great despite me having to leave slightly early - it was incredible to be able to catch most of their performance, and their music was something great for dancing, moshing, and headbanging to - as punk should be.
It was incredible to be able to see so much authentic hardcore music - and to have a band from the 80's still performing locally to me is something truly special; the Chill House was alive and better than ever on this night, and each band made it a great occasion for the books.
----------------
You will never find people as humble, down to earth, and kind as you will at these shows - the members of the bands were all exceptionally nice and took the time to interact with me and chat with me before and between sets, and it was a delight being as involved as I managed to be. I will forever cherish this night and the doors it has opened for me along the way, and I cannot thank everybody enough for making it happen.
The venue wasn't overly packed and the crowd was respectful, with rowdy mosh pits creating the energy that every rock show needs to have while still keeping it safe, friendly, and respectful. There are few places safer for youth than the Chill House, and everything always feels secure every time I go there, with this show being one of the most well maintained events I have ever been to in my years of attending concerts.
----------------
This show marked the first time that I have ever done footage in the way I had done it, with me filming most of each set and capturing a wide variety of videos to remember these moments forever and help to show everyone how talented these bands all truly are - with this being my first small venture into concert documentation on a "proper" scale.
I am so happy to announce that I will be working alongside Hold the Mustard Productions for my first ever role as a journalist for a company, and I cannot wait to document each show and possibly conduct interviews with all of the local talent that they are hosting.
You can find the various sets of footage on YouTube as listed here:
A great thank you again to every band, the respect of the crowd, the venue and those who help to run it, and Hold the Mustard Productions for making this article possible for me - this is the biggest step of my career yet, and I cannot express my gratitude enough.
All music is credited to their respective artists, and I do not claim any material as my own. Footage recorded and edited/compiled by me.
