Local Business Spotlight Chilliwack: SinAmen Bun Co.

After a recent break-in left windows smashed and the business' safe stolen, SinAmen Bun Co. continues to thrive and see plenty of Chilliwack customers daily, with Saturday being a sunny day where people were eager to try the many different kinds of cinnamon buns the storefront has to offer. Despite clear damage still being patched up after the robbery, the business is still in great operation and the quality is high.

SinAmen Bun is what many could call a hole-in-the-wall, you order from the window outside, and the inside of the building is for the employees to work in. It's like an on-foot drive-thru experience, and it's one of the most unique places in Chilliwack for the ordering experience alone. The buns came out within seconds, right after paying for the order, the buns were packed in boxes and ready to be enjoyed - with the buns being premade and displayed in the window. The atmosphere was very pleasant, with the sun being out in Chilliwack and people sharing conversations and moments of community connection while waiting for their treats.

The service was fast and polite for the baked goods, but the hot dog/food portion of the business took some extra time, with my order including cinnamon buns and a "Breaky Dog", a hot dog with bacon, cheese, mayo, and a delicious fried egg on a crisp bun.

SinAmen bun has a massive selection of homemade cinnamon buns, donuts, and various food items like smoked meats and specialty hot dogs.

The hot dog was great, with the creaminess of the sauces and the deliciously fried egg alongside the crispy bun being a great pairing - but the hot dog itself had a taste that was too meaty and a bit greasy in flavor, bringing the overall quality down by quite a lot. The hot dog felt more American style, with the flavor being slightly unsatisfactory.

I was pleased to try a selection of three different buns from the company. The original cinnamon bun, tiramisu bun, and the black forest bun.

The original cream cheese cinnamon bun was rich and decadent, with creamy icing and a light dough, it's a classic for a reason, and it's a pick you simply cannot go wrong with at all. The icing did not taste much like cream cheese and was more light and buttery, but the dough was the showstopper, being a perfect mix of rich and fluffy and gritty from the cinnamon sugar with crisp edges and a soft inside.

As for the black forest bun, it was mildly disappointing due to the cherry filling being too sour for my taste and the chocolate flavor not coming through as well as it could have in the dough - a good bun, but not quite great, especially compared to the tiramisu bun. The tiramisu bun was my first time tasting anything to do with tiramisu, and it was something that immediately wowed me. The flavors were complementary of each other and never overbearing, with the flavors of chocolate and coffee being delicately swirled with the cinnamon bun filling; it didn't lose the cinnamon aspect of the bun like the black forest flavor did, and it was without a doubt one of the best things I have tried so far from the company.
