Chilliwack Concerts: Lil GoDD Night One at Chill House Studio Causes Chaos
Friday night at the Chill House was the rowdiest I have ever seen it - with the crowd surpassing expectations and being a sold-out show for the Vancouver based "meme rapper". The energy was what you would expect, kids and teens screaming six-seven every ten minutes, and a reckless crowd with no consideration for other people and absolutely no etiquette.
The turnout for the show was something that no one could have expected. It looked like a full-blown concert that you would see in Vancouver, but problems arose with overcrowding and rude crowd members. From water throwing to pushing, people fell, bled, and ultimately got injured - with me included. The crowd was so reckless and lacked any consideration for others, meaning that it was constant pushing - common for general admission shows, but not like this.
Despite the crowd being a little too full of energy, the performers put on a good show, with a total of four openers and Lil GoDD as headliner, the show was made up of short sets and varied energies, with a great mix of genres and sound quality that was for the most part good, with some issues with bass during Blud Barbi's set.
The energy was pushed far and egged on by performers, with stage presence being unmatched and the show actually exceeding expectations and being enjoyable musically. There were some moments of chaos and disaster, but the performers were very good at their craft.
Aiden opened the show with an awkward, funny energy that burst into a high-energy show, with jumping and screaming being commonplace. His amount of crowd interaction was great to see, and the overall energy he presented was one of the highlights of the show.
Shotty Millz was given a high and mighty introduction, with a path being made for him as he is a "small guy". His energy was one of the most interesting aspects of the night, with an almost nerdcore leaning sound that made him one of the more unique performers. Lil GoDD's tour was absolutely the most unique, rowdy, and crowded show I have ever seen in Chilliwack, even outshining the daytime portion of the festival the venue hosted in the summer.
Blud Barbi was met with harassment from disorderly fans, being yelled at in a very unkind and disturbing manner that no performer should ever be submitted to; but the show went on. Her set was a good mix of rap and metal influences, with a unique style brought to the stage that was followed by Kohr Malakian. He brought a good energy to the stage, being most similar to Lil GoDD in terms of aesthetics and ending his set with a cover of System of a Down's Chop Suey, easily the highlight of my life and the most energy I had shown the entire gig.
Lil GoDD was surprisingly electrifying, with a massive stage presence and funny songs that were amusing to see live to see the least. It was bizarre to see a crowd so excited about meme songs, but it was unifying and full of community moments despite some unruliness that ruined the experience of the show. His performance was met with some good management, and it's clear that he is a suitable performer who is fit to put on concerts with great energy and delivery. His set was short, leaving out some of his hits and getting the basics in; and despite it not being a very thorough show, it was a good set.
After the show, the artists took the time to meet fans and sign their items, with Lil GoDD being one of the nicest celebrities possible. He took the time to sign items, chat with fans, take photos, and take any other fan requests; the acts of community at the show were great, from young fans getting piggybacks and water to kindness from Kandi kids and crowd movements, it was a show of good and bad. With theft, pushing, and water-throwing being rampant.

I did not expect it to be this bad!! I'm glad that at least the performers were nice ^^
ReplyDeleteThe performers were great, I'll be going on Sunday too - and I hope that the crowd isn't as bad. I'm sure that I need to be more understanding of how rude and rowdy people are in crowds, but it still always angers me not being able to get a spot and being pushed into. There were some great interactions, and I had never spoken to so many people at a show before - but the performances were really good, no fault of any artist.
